Shout out to Soul Fire Farm
This summer I took a week out of my research, writing, and educating duties to focus on a literature review for a wonderful organization: Soul Fire Farm. I heard about Soul Fire’s request through an organization I’m involved with - the Food Justice Scholar-Activist/Activist-Scholar Community of Practice, a subgroup of the Geographies of Food and Agriculture Specialty Group of the American Association of Geographers. The goal of the annotated bibliography would be to answer the question: Can small-scale regenerative agriculture feed the world?
I had committed to taking a week away from the privilege and self-involvement of my academic work as part of the Academics for Black Survival and Wellness Week. This meant either directly helping Black people, or attending the workshop hosted through the University of Florida, started by doctoral student Pearis Bellamy. Most of my week focused on the literature review, but I was also able to attend some of the wonderful programming.
